Victorian senators finalised

A United Australia Party senator has been elected in the wash-up of Victorian senate results for May's federal election, while the Liberal Party has one less Victorian senate representative.
Of the six senators facing election in 2022, four were re-elected and two new senators have been added to the Victorian senate positions.
The UAP's Ralph Babet was elected while Labor's Linda White also was elected for the first time, replacing retiring senator Kim Carr.
First elected was Liberal Sarah henderson, followed by Sen White, the Nationals' Bridget McKenzie, Labor's Jana Stewart, the Greens' Lidia Thorpe and Sen Babet elected sixth.
Sen McKenzie was the only senator elected in 2016 who was re-elected in 2022.
Sen Henderson, the former Member for Corangamite, was appointed to the Senate in September 2019 after the appointment of Mitch Fifield as Australia's representative to the United Nations.
Sen Thorpe was appointed in september 2020 to replace retiring Greens senator and former party leader Richard Di Natale.
The Liberal Party's Greg Mirabella was defeated from number three on the Coalition ticket. After leading Sen Babet early in the count, Mr Mirabella slipped behind as the count was finalised. Babet's lead was maintained by good flows of preferences from like-minded small right-of-centre parties.
