Train disruptions draw criticism

More Gippsland train service disruptions this week are requiring passengers to transfer to metropolitan services for trips between East Pakenham and the city.
Member for Eastern Victoria Melina Bath said passengers were outraged and accused the state government of cost cutting by removing replacement bus services for the entire journeys to and from Melbourne.
She said "dumping" passengers at East Pakenham station was a severe disadvantage for Gippsland people that relied on public transport to access work, study, medical appointments and entertainment.
Ms Bath said all services yesterday and today, and again tomorrow for evening services, required people to use Metro trains between the city and East Pakenham.
"That severely disadvantages the elderly and people with mobility issues that struggle to walk and carry their luggage".
Ms Bath also criticised the PTV App and V/line journey planner that provided conflicting service information.
She said people were distressed at missing vital medical appointments in the city and those commuting for work or study were furious at the impacts on them.
"For the past 10 years Gippsland passengers have suffered train cancellations and delays and the cuts to bus replacements was another example of the shoddy treatment of regional commuters using public transport with extra hours taken for their trips".
Speaking in parliament Ms Bath demanded the government ensured when trains were cancelled that they were replaced by buses for the entire journey.
