Student experiences work on historic railway

The historic Walhalla Goldfields Railway may be a key starting point for a Warragul student realising his ambition to be a train driver.
Nick Scott, a year 10 student at Marist-Sion College, recently spent two weeks undergoing work experience with the railway.
During that time he assisted as a conductor on the train, handled cash and greeted visitors from many parts of Australia and from overseas.
WGR's Gary Hansford said Nick demonstrated you are never too young, or too old, to help at the Walhalla tourist attraction.
He said Nick already had an amazing knowledge of railway history and operations and was keen to pursue driving trains as a career.
He said the railway was always looking for more volunteers.
Uniforms and training are provided free of charge and a fuel rebate is available to offset travel costs.
More details are available from training officer Graeme Skinner on 0497675285.
