Staff appointed to reopen Neerim school

As preparations continue for the reopening of Neerim District Rural Primary School, Lisa Williamson has been appointed principal, beginning in term one of 2025.

The school will re-open with 13 students enrolled for next year.
Ms Williamson has more than than 33 years of teaching experience across the education sector, including at international, interstate, metropolitan, rural, independent and Catholic schools.
Ms Williamson said she was looking forward to working with the community to create the best outcomes for students.
"Rural schools are the heart of their communities, and I am looking forward to working with this passionate community to grow their school and build on their educational resources," she said. "Accordingly, I hope to build strong connections between the school, the community and the students. So as a team, we deliver the best outcomes for our children.
"Reopening Neerim District Rural Primary School marks a new beginning. We will have the intimacy of small classrooms where we can cultivate a nurturing learning environment that fosters academic success and personal development."
Cassandra Furst will fill the classroom teacher role for term one while a permanent classroom teacher role is advertised. A Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS) practitioner role also will be advertised.
In addition to essential maintenance and works to the school grounds, the process to install infrastructure for internet and phone services is continuing and scheduled for completion in January. A new playground is scheduled for installation at the school in mid-January.
Two murals created by retired artist Ken Raston depicting the area's history have been removed from the school for conservation and restoration by enthusiasts at Neerim District Community House and Men's Shed. They will resume their rightful place at the school for the start of the academic year.
A third mural, created by students in the early 2000s, is also in need of restoration. Interested parties are encouraged to reach out to the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA).
Thirteen students are currently enrolled at Neerim District Rural Primary School for 2025. The VSBA encouraged parents and carers of prospective students to complete enrolments as soon as possible to ensure the school receives the appropriate operating budget.
Anyone with questions about enrolments is encouraged to email jennifer.williams6@education.vic.gov.au.
