Scrooge destroys tree in Drouin park

Very little remains of a significant tree in Alex Goudie Park in Drouin after a Christmas Scrooge took a saw to it.
The Friends of Drouin's Trees issued a message for the person responsible for the damage to a small Blue Spruce tree last Monday.
"Next year please let us know you need a Christmas tree and we will deliver one to you gladly," the group said.
Members discovered the bulk of the tree had been removed after they arrived for a working bee at the Trees of Nations.
"It looked like someone had sawed through, then pulled off the top," member Judy Farmer said. "Presumably, someone now has small Blue Spruce as their Christmas tree in their house, but the community have been deprived of a tree planted in 2020 with three years of growth on it."
She said the tree would now have to be replaced at the community's expense.
Part of the Trees of Nations, the Blue Spruce was renewed in 2020 to honour those from British Columbia in the local community. It was one of 50 trees now signed and growing well in this park.
Ms Farmer said many locals had stopped to share their grief over the tree's "wonton destruction".
