Protect against number plate theft
1 min read

For a $5 donation, local residents can reduce the risk of number plate theft.
To combat increasing incidents, Drouin and Warragul Neighbourhood Watch will bring back "Operation Safe Plate" on Saturday, March 15.
Held from 9am to noon in the Mason St carpark, Neighbourhood Watch and Warragul SES volunteers will install one-way safety screws on vehicles for a $5 donation.
The community event has resulted in the screws being installed on thousands of vehicles across its 20-year history. It is normally held twice a year.
Victoria Police said it was expensive to replace stolen vehicle number plates, which could be used by criminals to commit other crimes.
The top tips to prevent number plate theft are: secure your plates with anti-theft screws or pop rivets; and, park in a secure or well-lit area.
Any funds raised at "Operation Safe Plate" will be shared evenly between Neighbourhood Watch and SES.
