Plenty of playground fun
1 min read

A water play area and new playground are features of the $1.53 million redeveloped Drouin Civic Park.

The redevelopment project was officially unveiled last weekend.

Draft designs for the Drouin Civic Park masterplan were put out for community comment in 2018.

Three years later, the vision has been completed to deliver a dynamic, innovative and accessible playground and park space for residents of all ages, interests and abilities.

The new and improved features of the park include:

New play area including playground, trampolines and accessible play equipment;

Water play area;

Establishment of a wetland park and board walk;

New fitness park area;

Embankment hill slide, climbing wall and flying fox

Parkour and kickabout area;

Extended accessible footpath network including educational traffic loop;

Tree planting, landscaping and plant collection areas;

New barbecue and shelter areas;

New and upgraded park furniture including bench seating;

Public toilet upgrade to include disability and baby change facilities;

New bins, and a car park upgrade.

Local contractors and suppliers played a big part in the project, with Warragul-based MadCat Constructions being awarded the project contract in June last year.

Habitat Creations also played a significant role in landscaping works.

The Habitat Creations team planted more than 1000 plants including native and exotic tree species to give the park a botanic garden feel and a habitat for wildlife.

The soft landscaping also included garden beds surrounding the new playground and park infrastructure.

The project was funded by a $750,000 Latrobe Valley Authority community and facility fund grant, $530,000 from council and $250,000 from Drouin and District Community Bank.
