"Hi, I'm Gary."
No doubt those words were heard more than one hundred times on Saturday when former AFL superstar Gary Ablett Jr made a special appearance at the Drouin Football Club.
Ablett was on hand to play a one-off match at the club where his famous father began his own esteemed career.
The introductions he made to the countless fans approaching him were hardly necessary given his standing in the game.
Ablett, now 39, played 357 games and kicked 445 goals for both Geelong and Gold Coast in one of the most decorated careers in the history of the sport. He is a two-time premiership player, a two-time Brownlow medallist, an eight-time All-Australian and a five-time Leigh Matthews Trophy winner, among countless other accolades.
And for one day, and one day only, he was a Drouin – or as they were known for their Indigenous round, Brayakaloong - Hawk.
