Next few months key to plan for major Drouin development
1 min read

Latest plans for a major commercial development on a large block, bare for about 10 years, in Drouin's main business area will likely depend on some key outcomes over the next few months.
A spokeperson for the owner and proposed developer of the Princes Way site, Drouin-based A1 Developments, said plans had been approved by Baw Baw Shire council but major influences on whether the project goes ahead at this stage will be the prices submitted by tenderers and ongoing negotiations with state government agency VicTrack that owns the roadway area at the back of the property.
"It's not done and dusted yet," the spokesperson stated.
The proposal is for a hotel including 35 accommodation rooms, a function room that could seat 200 people, a restaurant and some retail space.
An underground car park would serve guests staying at the hotel and a public car parking area would be established on the roof top of the three-storey building.
It will not include a licenced public bar open to the general public with the spokesperson likening the proposal to that of the Mercure Hotel and Newmason restaurant complex in Warragul.
The Princes Way site has a long history in Drouin.
Its former uses have included for an engineering works, a coffee palace, a TAB branch and take away food outlets.
