New interim CEO appointed

Due to unplanned leave of Baw Baw Shire's interim chief executive officer, another member of council's executive team, Cohen Van der Velde, has been appointed to the role.
At the opening of Wednesday night's council meeting, mayor Danny Goss announced the formal appointment of Mr Van der Velde into the temporary leadership role until April 16 or until a ceo was appointed.
Mr Van der Velde replaces Martin Hopley who is currently on unplanned personal leave. Mr Hopley stepped into the interim role on January 1 after the resignation of Mark Dupe.
"Martin Hopley is currently on sick leave and we wish him well with his recovery," Cr Goss told the meeting.
Cr Goss said councillors considered the appointment during a confidential council meeting on Wednesday afternoon.
He said Mr Van der Velde would step into the role while a comprehensive recruitment process for a new permanent ceo took place.
"We thank Cohen for supporting us through this period and look forward to commencing the recruitment process for our new ceo," Cr Goss said.
Mr Van der Velde joined Baw Baw Shire in late 2017 as community infrastructure director. He was appointed strategy and organisational performance director in April 2023.
