Warragul Municipal Band has a new musical director.
Geoff Coote will take over in the role in January. He is prominent in the world of brass bands, particularly in Australia.
Known for his musical expertise and leadership, Geoff has made significant contributions to the brass band community as a player, mentor and musical director.
Geoff's passion for brass music began at an early age, and he quickly became involved in the local brass band scene. His commitment to the world of brass bands has led to more than 50 years of service that began with the Wonthaggi Citizens Band in 1974.
An accomplished performer - player and conductor - Geoff has been a soloist and a member of various ensembles.
He was a professional member of the Victorian State Youth Band; a professional musician Royal Australia Air Force 1980 to 2000; appointed solo euphonium of the National Australian Band 1995; and, inducted to the National Band of the Century 1900-2000.
Geoff is a casual support player to the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
He has been a playing member of Wonthaggi Citizens Band (life member), Whitehorse Brass and Warragul Municipal Band.
Geoff has served as musical director for various renowned brass bands including Wonthaggi Citizens Band, City of Traralgon Band and City of Dandenong Band.
He is well-regarded for his ability, bringing out the best in players, mentoring musicians and leading bands to success at state, national, and international competitions. Additionally, he has been involved in arranging and composing music for brass bands, contributing to the expansion of the brass band repertoire.
Geoff has also been instrumental in the development of brass music education, working to collaboratively nurture young talent and ensure the continued success of brass bands in
Australia and beyond. His work with local and national brass organisations has helped preserve and evolve the brass band tradition.
Warragul Municipal Band says it is currently in an exciting phase of operation with the recent launch of a community music education program come and try, band ready, training band, and soon to be junior band to generate succession to the senior band.
As musical director, Geoff will play a pivotal role within the band family and is responsible for leading and directing musical performances, ensuring high standards of musical excellence, and for fostering a positive and collaborative environment.
