The Neerim District Bendigo Bank at Neerim South has marked 25 years since it was established.
And at a function to celebrate its success over that period, the good news flowed for 16 district clubs and organisations when they shared in grants totalling more than $93,000.
It also was a memorable occasion for Jack Cumming, who was announced as recipient of this year's Beth Delzoppo scholarship, and Georgia Coleman who received the Bill Cumming young achiever award.
Groups that shared the latest grants were Jindivick Cricket Club, Neerim District Bowling, Buln Buln Football Netball Club, Neerim District Junior Basketball, Neerim District senior citizens, Neerim District junior football, Nilma-Darnum Football Netbal, Neerim South Primary School, Crossover school hall committee of management, Noojee and District Historical Society, Neerim Memorial hall committee, Neerim District Progress Association, Neerim District History and Heritage Group, Food Relief Neerim District, Live4Life Baw Baw and Algie Hall at Neerim South.
The bank's journey began as an ambitious idea, one that was made possible through the dedication and generosity of the local community. It was established after district community members raised almost $380,000 in pledges and since then has distributed almost $1 million to community clubs and organisations from its profits.
Founding member Paul Bright said raising the funds and working on setting up the bank was one of the most rewarding times of his career.
"Jim Cunliffe will always be one of the great men to have worked with.
"Being the inaugural chairman and holding that role for over a decade was equally fulfilling. I couldn't be prouder than to have been a part of returning banking services to the district and distributing profits approaching $1 million to local service group," Mr Bright said.
Over the years, this commitment has only strengthened, with 80 per cent of the bank's profits reinvested back into the community.
Current chair of Neerim District Community Enterprise Clive Patrickson said from humble beginnings the bank had grown from not only providing essential financial services but to one that also played a crucial role in strengthening the district.
"Its ongoing contributions has provided assistance and support to vital local services whether it be funding educational programs, healthcare initiatives or local community groups".
The true wealth of a community bank is the lasting impact it leaves on the community, Mr Patrickson said.
Through its ongoing contributions, Community Bank Neerim District has provided assistance and support to vital local services, ensuring that those in need receive the help they deserve.
Food Relief Neerim District Inc has had a long association with the bank. Secretary Sue Richardson said Neerim District Food relief would not be where it is today if it was not for the support of the bank.
