Warragul residents have likened a sudden wind storm to a tornado as tiles were torn from rooftops, fences snapped and birds blown into bushes.
A trail of destruction was left in the Dawson Drv, Howard St and Normanby St areas after the storm struck around lunchtime on Sunday.
Warragul SES reported more than 45 calls for assistance.
"It just hit," Howard St resident Ron Jackson explained. "There was a hell of a noise."
"It was like a tornado, and the whole house was shaking."
Across the back fence in Copelands Rd, Janice Santa Maria said the event only lasted about 10 seconds.
"But probably the scariest thing I've ever seen," she said.
