Memorial fun run launched
1 min read

This month's Geoff Watt Memorial Fun Run and Festival has been officially launched.
The fun run and festival will be held on October 23 at the Geoff Watt Memorial Athletics Track in Burke St, Warragul and will include several running and walking events, as well as live music, food and wine.
Olympic athlete Kathy Watt, said the festival was celebrating its 50th year since it began in memory of her late father Geoff Watt.

"We are hoping it will be a really great celebration of 50 years of the event," she said.
"We had two virtual ones, but this year we can all come together with a big festival, live music, fun entertainment for adults and children, and runs between 2.5k and a half marathon."
"This year we've got more store holders, we've got Tarago Cheese, Mitchelton Wine Tasting, Grand Ridge Brewery, Gippsland Dairy, Bulla Ice Cream."
Funds raised through fun run entries, raffles and other prizes will go toward Gippsland Young Athlete Scholarships in association with the Lions Club. Ms Watt said expenses for young athletes in regional areas were often far more than their metropolitan counterparts.
"There'll be some prizes for Little Aths kids and then also up to 27 years of age - because in endurance events it takes longer to mature," she said.
Ms Watt said "quite a lot of work" went into the fun run and festival, with road traffic management and sponsorships.
Race events this year include a half marathon, women's 10k and men's 10k, men's and women's 5k, a 2.5k run or walk and a one-lap 'dash'.
There will be individual and team prizes for fastest times and most entries from a club, workplace or team.
There also will be fancy dress prizes on offer.
The first event will kick off at 9am, with the collection of race numbers and packs starting at 8am.
