The term in office of West Gippsland Healthcare Group's chief executive officer Dan Weeks ends tomorrow.
However, with a replacement yet to be appointed Mr Weeks will stay on in an interim capacity for the next few months.
He took up the position in Warragul 13 years ago after previously being the chief executive officer at hospitals at Numurkah and Benalla in north-centre Victoria.
West Gippsland Hospital has had only two chief executive officers this century, Mr Weeks succeeding Ormond Pearson who also served 13 years in the position.
Mr Weeks said the group's board had been in the process of seeking a replacement for some time and was expected to interview candidates over the next few weeks before submitting a recommendation to the secretary of the state Department of Health.
He said he would remain in the position in an interim capacity until the successful candidate was available to take up the post.
Mr Weeks said he intended to retire and remain living locally.
