Horse saved after vehicle catches fire

The quick actions of a driver has saved a horse after his vehicle caught fire at Nilma North on Friday morning.
Police said a 61-year-old Buln Buln man noticed his Grand Cherokee utility overheating as he towed a horse float along Bloomfield Rd at about 10.45am.
He slowed down at the Old Sale Rd intersection just as the engine bay caught fire.
The driver acted quickly, taking a horse from the float and securing it in a nearby paddock before returning to remove the horse float from the vehicle.
Police said the vehicle was engulfed in flames when CFA crews from Nilma North and Drouin West arrived. They were able to extinguish the fire but the vehicle was destroyed. The road also sustained damage.
