Hollywood hits Gippsland as filming begins in Walhalla
1 min read

Walhalla is looking much more colourful as it prepares to become a film set this week.
With temporary coats of bright paint, signage and set dressing, the town has been transformed to resemble a marketplace in a Nepalese village for the film 'Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky' starring superstar Liam Neeson.
Filming is tentatively planned for eight days from January 16 to 24.
Local businesses and residents are in the dark about the specific schedule and day-to-day operations of the set, including whether or not Neeson himself will be appearing.
The film is expected to provide a tourism boon to the region, with the town still open and operating during filming.
The Walhalla and Mountain Rivers Tourism Association expect between 80 and 200 crew to arrive in the town and drop $2 million across the region.
Whilst Walhalla has been recognised by film location scouts in the past, it's never been used before due to difficulty converting the historic town into anything other than Walhalla.
But, being extremely mountainous, it fit the bill for this film. With the help of computer-generated imagery in post production, the town is set to be unrecognisable as a West Gippsland mining town.
The tourism association has been mindful not all local businesses will benefit and may be negatively affected.
An example is the Walhalla Long Tunnel Extended Gold Mine who will see access impacted. However, steps are being taken to reduce these issues.
Potential visitors to the set have been told to plan ahead due to expected traffic delays and limited parking.
