Whether you're a pet owner, an animal lover or just passionate about your community, residents can now have their say on pet ownership in Baw Baw Shire.
Council is currently reviewing its domestic animal management plan (DAMP), with community feedback open until Friday, April 11.
Ahead of the 2026-29 plan being set, feedback will help address emerging issues and create a more pet-friendly and responsible community for all.
Baw Baw Shire mayor Danny Goss emphasised the importance of community input in shaping the new plan.
"This review gives us the opportunity to listen to the community and make improvements that benefit both pet owners and non-pet owners alike, so we encourage everyone to get involved and share their thoughts," Cr Goss said.
Cr Jess Hamilton said feedback was essential in creating a well-balanced and effective plan for the years ahead.
"Pets are an important part of many households, and this plan will help us ensure that council is supporting responsible pet ownership while addressing any challenges," Cr Hamilton said.
The DAMP is all about creating a safe, responsible, and pet-friendly community. It focuses on: promoting responsible pet ownership; ensuring welfare of dogs and cats; and, protecting residents, public spaces and the environment from nuisance pets.
Key topics under review include: compliance with relevant legislation; access to leash-free areas; reducing risk of dog attacks; tackling pet overpopulation, euthanasia rates and rehoming efforts; minimising nuisance issues related to dogs and cats; boosting pet registration and identification; and, training authorised officers and improving council processes.
