A "Super Sunday - day of action" will be hosed by federal independent candidate for Monash Deb Leonard in Drouin this weekend when she unveils the first of her election policies for the electorate.
After holding several intensive policy development sessions with constituents across the electorate, a set of policies has been developed that Ms Leonard has pledged to fight for if elected.
Over the past five months, Ms Leonard and her team of volunteers have been listening to the community and collecting feedback through surveys, door knocking, kitchen table conversations and politics in the pub events.
"We've engaged in a range of methods of listening to community to hear from people of different demographics in all parts of the electorate. All the feedback we have received is collated and now forms the basis on which I will shape my policies," she said.
"As an independent, my job is to listen to locals and take their concerns to Canberra, not to toe a party line.
"The major parties have taken Monash for granted as a safe seat for too long. It's time we had a representative who puts our community first."
Ms Leonard said the policies wouldn't be "vague promises" but were practical solutions to make a real difference to the lives of families across the region.
She said she was grateful to the community member, all volunteers from different backgrounds, who had helped shape the policies.
"It is so valuable to have the input of experts in their field and also people with lived experience in issues such as NDIS and farming to make sure that the policies are appropriate for our community," she said.
The policies will be announced at a day of action event to be held at Drouin Community Hub this Sunday, February 16, between 10am and 3pm.
The event will feature a range of speakers, lunch, and a chance for volunteers to get directly involved with the campaign.
