Offenders who allegedly swapped registration plates from a stolen car in Warragul were reportedly later involved in the theft of cash from a Trafalgar car wash.
Police said a black Haval SUV was captured on security footage at Fairview Village in Sargeant St, Warragul between 6.15am and 8.30am on Thursday morning.
It is alleged a man and woman removed registration plates from a Haval vehicle parked in the Fairview Village carpark and replaced them with registration plates BTT611.
A Haval SUV with the same registration plates was previously reported stolen from the Peninsula Aquatic Centre two days earlier, after the victim's keys and belongings were stolen.
The same vehicle was seen in Ferntree Gully, Springvale and Glen Waverley when it evaded police.
The stolen Haval, with male and female occupants, also was allegedly captured on CCTV at Scuba Steve's car wash in Saleyards Rd, Trafalgar at 2.30pm the same day.
Police allege while the woman was washing the car, the man went into the office area. He allegedly stole a quantity of cash from the drawer and a laptop computer.
