Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man in relation to a fatal collision at Powelltown earlier this month.
Police executed a search warrant on Wednesday morning and arrested a 22-year-old Mooroolbark man.
He was charged with multiple offences including culpable driving causing death, negligently causing serious injury, dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing serious injury, reckless conduct endangering life, reckless conduct causing serious injury, dangerous driving, careless drive and driving at a dangerous speed.
The man's licence was immediately suspended.
The charges follow an incident where two motorcyclists were allegedly travelling east at high speeds on Yarra Junction-Noojee Road at about 1.30pm on January 8.
Police allege one of the riders, a 23-year-old Northcote man, was involved in a head-on collision with an unrelated motorcyclist, a 77-year-old Croydon man, who was travelling west.
The 77-year-old rider was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries where he remains in a stable condition.
The 23-year-old rider died at the scene.
The 22-year-old Mooroolbark man, who was riding behind the deceased at the time of the collision, was not injured.
He was bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on January 29.
Property dumped
A number of items stolen from a car in Sinclair St, Drouin were found dumped in nearby bushes.
Police said two men were seen on security footage gaining access to a 2015 Renault sedan parked at a house in Sinclair St.
The incident occurred at 1.15am on Tuesday morning.
A Ryobi line trimmer, blower and air pods were removed from the car but dumped in bushes neaxt door.
