Bush burns after hay mower ignites grass

An accidental fire caused by hay cutting machinery led to a six hectare bushfire north of Trafalgar on Sunday afternoon.
Aerial water bombing and more than 20 CFA units attended the bushfire at Bayleys Rd.
Police said the fire started when a farmer was cutting hay in a paddock on the north side of Bayleys Rd, about one kilometre east of Araluen Rd. The hay mower ignited some dry grass.
Despite attempts by the farmer to extinguish the fire, police said the grass fire travelled quickly and several spot fires ignited.
A fire alert on Vic Emergency indicated the fire started just before 11.30am.
The fire was travelling from Bayleys Rd in a south-westerly direction towards Yarragon-Shady Creek Rd.
More than 20 CFA units attended as the fire spread.
Residents in Yulungah, Shady Creek and north of the Princes Hwy in Trafalgar and Yarragon were told there was no threat to communities but to "stay informed."
Police said traffic management points were established and aerial fire fighting assistance was called in.
The fire was determined to be under control at about 4.30pm.
Police said CFA units remained on site on Sunday night to monitor and manage any flare ups.
About six hectares of bushland was burnt, according to police.
