Oscar Jack has led the way of his new generation, being the first baby born in West Gippsland - and possibly Victoria - at 12.01am on new year's day.
It took just nine minutes for Oscar to make his mark on the world as a Generation Beta baby, giving parents Kayla Rourke and Jackson Ancilleri an unexpected home birth.
While arriving a few days ahead of his due date, his birth was unexpected when Kayla went to bed for a quiet new year's eve before midnight struck to see in 2025.
But Oscar had other plans and soon the Cloverlea household was awake with his grandmother Laura Ancilleri ready to deliver her grandson.
Paramedics were called but, with a fast labour, Oscar was born before they arrived so all they could do was provide advice over the phone, talking Laura through the finer details. It is all a blur for Kayla who admits she didn't really have time to think about anything and, overwhelmed by the experience, wouldn't choose a home birth again.
But, she said the birth all went smoothly and Oscar was now doing really well.
Kayla and Oscar were transported to West Gippsland Hospital for a short two-day stay before they returned home to family, including his big sister 13-month-old Billie.
Oscar is already showing his enthusiasm to make history with his home birth and quick arrival making him the first baby born in West Gippsland for 2025, the year that marks the beginning of a new generation with all babies born from January 1 being part of Gen Beta.
