More than 73 tonnes of glass was collected across Baw Baw Shire in the first month of purple-lid bin collection.
The council's waste collection team reported only a couple of plastic milk bottles and plastic bags across the bins collected, which were manually removed before processing.
Baw Baw Shire chief executive officer Mark Dupe thanked the community for adjusting to the change.
"We were thrilled with the outcome following the introduction and first collections of the new glass recycling bin," Mr Dupe said. "Overall, the glass from the first collection was clean with minimal contamination. Well done Baw Baw!"
The purple-lid bins were rolled out across Baw Baw Shire from June to August, with the first collections on October 7.
They are collected every four weeks.
The new bins are for glass bottles and jars only. Residents are encouraged to rinse all jars, remove all lids or corks and place items in the glass recycling bin loosely. Labels can be left on.
Do not use bags for recyclables in the purple or yellow-lid bins.
Lids and corks can be placed in the red-lidded general rubbish bin.
The biggest contaminants in the glass bins so far are items that belong in the red or yellow bin, such as general rubbish, polystyrene and plastic bags, council reported.
Introduced by the state government, all Victorian councils were required to introduce a separate glass recycling bin as part of a 10-year plan to improve waste and recycling.
Baw Baw Shire has previously stated the new service would not impact the ratepayer waste charge.
