New council sworn in

The new Baw Baw Shire councillor group has gathered for the first time to be officially sworn in.

The ceremony was conducted in the council chamber on Wednesday in front of a small gallery, giving six newcomers their first taste of councillor life.
Each councillor individually took the oath and affirmation of office as part of the swearing-in ceremony.
Baw Baw Shire chief executive officer Mark Dupe told the nine councillors the position allowed them to set an example of good leadership to everyone.
"We stand ready to work with you," Mr Dupe said.
He encouraged the group to fully embrace the principles of councillor conduct.
"This simply means being honest in your dealings with others, separating your personal interests from your public duties, acting lawfully, treating others with respect, and using the community's resources wisely," Mr Dupe said.
Following the election, the newly elected councillors indicated they were excited by the new look council which saw only two sitting councillors returned.
After being elected, Cr Sheehan said the community's election of seven new councillors was a real message - "it's time for change."
Both Crs Goss and Lucas were elected with resounding primary votes.
While Cr Lucas is new to this councillor group, it is not his first time elected, serving a short stint after being elected at the 2020 council elections.
The new council group will elect a mayor and deputy mayor at a statutory meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) at 1pm.
The meeting, at the West Gippsland Arts Centre, is open to the public.
The first ordinary council meeting is then scheduled for Wednesday, December 4.
