Police message - "don't sit, just go"

Detectives investigating a carjacking and assault in a Warragul carpark on Tuesday night have reassured the community the crime was opportunistic rather than targeted.

However, the police message to people getting into vehicles at night is "don't sit, just go."
Detectives are appealing for footage as they continue investigations into the incident in which two men, allegedly armed with a machete, approached a 27-year-old Drouin man, in a carpark off Trumpy Lane at about 10.10pm.
Police were told the offenders threatened the man and demanded his keys before assaulting him.
The man was taken to West Gippsland Hospital with minor eye injuries.
The two male offenders also approached a 19-year-old Warragul woman in another vehicle nearby. She was not physically injured but her car window was damaged as she fled.
Senior sergeant Peter Watson said this type of crime hadn't occurred in Warragul before.
He said both victims had finished work, walked to their vehicles parked in different locations and had sat in their vehicles checking phones before leaving the carpark.
