Warragul Country Club's women golfers recently donated more than 30 toiletry packs to Longwarry Lions Club.
Born out of a discussion about homeless and transient people in the Baw Baw Shire area, the Country Club's women golfers began a toiletries charity drive.
"The drive was sort of inspired after having a conversation with Debbie Brown from the Longwarry Lions Club," said Country Club golfer Jo De Jong. "Debbie gave us an oversight into what happens to homeless women in our community."
Knowing the female golfers were up to the challenge, golfer Joy Marriott was confident in the donations they would receive.
"After speaking with Jo and determining that this was something needed in the community, we thought the golf ladies would be able to take it on board quite easily," Joy said. "Everybody donated bits and pieces, and all of a sudden, those bits and pieces turned into a mountain. We've ended up with 30 toiletry bags, a big bag of personal products and heaps of leftovers as well."
Debbie said the number of people coming to the Lions Club for support was increasing. The donated toiletry packs will mean the club won't have to buy as many products to keep up with the need.
"We get a lot of homeless or transient people coming in to us at the Lions Club, but we're getting more and more referrals from other agencies," Debbie said. "One of the things we are desperately needing is toiletry packs, so it was great to come up and talk to the ladies about that and receive their donations."
