The year 2023 began on a sobering note, with locals urged to take preventative measures against opportunistic criminals following data showing an increase in thefts in Baw Baw.
Data released by the Crime Statistics Agency showed the number of thefts increased from 589 in 2021 to 709 in 2022.
Despite this, overall crime reduced in the same time period by 7.3 per cent. This decrease continued a two-year reduction in crime in the shire, however, the increase in thefts was thought to be as a result of a rise in opportunistic thefts from cars and in retail shops.


It was announced there would be no V-Line train services for Gippsland
