Drouin Rotary Club members were seen outside the Drouin Coles supermarket recently operating the barbecue and selling tickets for the club's Christmas raffle.
All profits from the barbecue and all proceeds from the raffle will be directed to local charities for the preparation of food and gift hampers for local families in need of assistance and cheer this Christmas.
Barbecue co-ordinator Janette Pocklington said that the club was grateful to Coles for the invitation to operate the barbecue and their assistance in its preparation and operation. "It is a wonderful opportunity for local groups to raise some funds with not too much effort on their part," she said.
Raffle co-ordinator Pauline Maunder thanked local businesses who had been generous with donations of goods and vouchers to enable the club to offer great prizes while raising funds to bring joy to others at Christmas.
"Last year we donated to the Vinnies, the Longwarry Lions Food Bank and to The Crossing in Drouin so that hampers could be put together" Pauline said.
"It was a great success and thoroughly appreciated by those organisations and those who received the hampers. We are hoping to be bigger and better this year, with the help of locals who buy sausages and tickets," she said.
