Four district community facilities will have access to back-up electricity through connection to batteries paired with solar installations.
Victorian minister for energy and resources Lily D'Ambrosio said batteries would be installed at the Trafalgar Golf Club, Bunyip hall, Koo wee rup community centre and at Powelltown.
She said the the batteries were being funded in the second round of the government's neighbourhood battery program enabling them to "soak up" cheap renewable energy from rooftop solar during the day and fed into the local facilities at night when power usage is high.
At the Trafalgar golf club a stand-alone power system with solar, 107 kilowatt battery and generator to make the golf club a resilience hub during power outages is to be installed at a cost of $302,000.
Almost $150,000 will be spent at each of the Bunyip hall and Koo wee rup community centre to provide a 115 kilowatt capacity battery.
The 106 kilowatt battery and solar system at Powelltown, costing $218,785, will be located at the recreation reserve and available to the community as back-up in the event of outages.
Ms D'Ambrosio said 65 new battery locations were announced in the second round of the programme including at 22 Salvation Army sites providing foodbanks, domestic violence refuges, emergency accommodation, drug and alcohol rehabilitation centres and community centres.
She said the batteries would reduce the Salvation Army's energy bills by about $790,000, money that can be invested back into community services.
