Fire victim says thanks
1 min read

A woman caught in a car fire in Warragul yesterday has thanked strangers who rescued her and her dogs.

Karen Layland of Saffron on the Hill Dog Rescue at Loch said there was no way she and her dogs would have survived the intense blaze if it was not for the help of strangers and staff at the childcare centre.

Her Toyota RAV burst into flames at about 10am yesterday morning near the Waterford Rise childcare centre.

Karen was transporting a few puppy farm rescue dogs to her vets at Baw Baw Paws when the fire occurred.

“There’s no way myself and the dogs would have survived if it wasn’t for the help of strangers coming to our aid and they had gone before I had a chance to thank them.

“The staff at the kindergarten were amazing, they welcomed myself and the dogs in and offered us everything we needed and a vet nurse drove down to collect the dogs while I sorted everything out with the tow truck and fire department.

“I know we are all meant to help each other in these times but in my experience it rarely happens - people find it easier to walk away than to offer assistance and I would really like for these people to know how grateful I am,” she said.
