Fancy Disco DJ spreads cheer

by Bonnie Collings

The Warragul Farmers Market will be full of Christmas cheer on Saturday thanks to the tunes of Fancy Disco DJ Mariano.

Playing all the best Christmas hits throughout the market, DJ Mariano said his set would be filled with "Christmas vibes".
"It will be all Christmas songs for people of all ages," he said. "I try to create the best vibes and lots of fun."
Mariano will work with Santa to facilitate a Christmas carol sing-along during the market.
"We'll have lots of Christmas songs before (the sing-along) but our main song will be Jingle Bells," he said.
Mariano said his goal is to spread the joy of Christmas throughout the market.
"I hope people make good memories," he said. "I want to make everyone happy, get together and share the Christmas spirit."
Now proud to call Gippsland home, Mariano - originally from Argentina - has travelled around the world working as a DJ.
"Music took me everywhere, I love it," he said. "Music is my life."
After travelling to Fiji for a holiday and falling in love with the island, Mariano developed a new dream: working as the island's DJ.
Mariano let them know it would be his dream to DJ at the venue. Soon enough the dream came true.
"They said to me, 'Mariano, your dream will come true!" he said. "I played music until 12 in the morning every day."
Mariano DJ-ed in Fiji for seven months, stopping only when he met a "cute girl" named Angela who was on holidays from Australia.
The pair fell in love fast, and when it was time for Angela to go home, Mariano made the decision to go with her.
"I left everything (in Fiji), all my clothes, my equipment and came to Australia," he said. "I came to Australia without knowing any English, so I learned a lot in 10 years."
"Since I came here, I've never left! We got married in Fiji on the same island that we met."
Mariano and his wife Angela moved to Drouin five years ago, enjoying the quietness of the Gippsland countryside.
"We love the quietness, and we love the people," Mariano said.
Mariano said his biggest inspiration for his work was his late father, who always encouraged him to pursue his dream.
"My inspiration is my dad," Mariano said. "He said 'the music is everything for you, so you have to keep doing it until your last day'. He keeps me going."
Mariano said he also found inspiration in growing his skills and playing new venues.
"There's always one venue I didn't go to, so I want to go, that's my inspiration as well," he said. "I want to grow as a DJ, grow as a person, keep getting better. I wake up every day with a new idea, I'm Argentinian so I'm very passionate."
Mariano will keep the Christmas tunes pumping at the Warragul Farmers Market this Saturday between 8:30am and 1pm.
