A retired school teacher and principal has been nominated as the Family First party's candidate in the Monash election.
Geoff Dethlefs, who has lived in the electorate for the past 19 years, and his wife taught in schools in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Queensland and, for one year, in New Hampshire, USA.
Since 1983 most of their teaching was in non-government Christian schools.
Now 80, Mr Dethlefs said he was eager to contribute to wider government in Australia.
He believes baseload power should be realistically south from either coal, gas of hydro and nuclear power should be seriously explored.
Mr Dethlefs sees the light warming of the planet to be a cyclic matter. "It will cool again".
He described destroying the environment and prime farmland as reckless in the pursuit of a "ridiculously expensive woke dream" and disastrous for the economy and future.
Family First did not stand a candidate in Monash at the 2022 election.
