Trevor Stammers suspects a lot of people might "think he's gone crazy" following his decision to get out of beef farming and to start a new dairy business from scratch on his Neerim East property.
Last week saw Trevor and his wife Sophia witness the first tanker of milk from their herd of Jersey cows leave the farm for supply to Gippsland Jersey and Burra Foods.
The decision to build a new dairy operation from the ground up has seen the Stammers family farming operation come full circle from when Trevor's father and his family were dairy farming in nearby Murphys Rd in the 1980s. In the ensuing years, the family concentrated more on beef and potato farming so the move back into milking cows is a "dairy fairytale" according to Gippsland Jersey's Sallie Jones.
