Community garden proposal for Drouin
1 min read

Creation of a community garden at Drouin is on the drawing board and a call has gone out for people interested in being involved.
The proposal will be a key agenda item at the meeting of the Committee for Drouin next Monday night at the Drouin Hub on Oak St starting at 7pm.
President Jeannie Haughton said it was the "next big project" being looked at by the committee, which has been an advocacy and action group for the town for 30 years and encourages all people to attend.
Ms Haughton said the committee had just completed restoration work on the Federation Wall, a project undertaken more than 20 years ago to welcome the new century and capture life at the time and hopes for the future.
Working with a local company with the financial support of the Drouin and District Community Bendigo Bank, the clay images comprising the wall were made clearer so the names of students and adults artists can be easily read and colours brightened.
These are just a few of the things the Committee for Drouin does, Ms Haughton said.
It puts forward local interests in areas such as planning, development and other civic matters, neighbourhood attractiveness and the environment as well as local history.
The committee auspices the Friends of Drouin Trees and liaises closely with groups such as the Baw Baw Planning Alliance, Drouin History Group, Drouin CWA and the Rotary club to give voice and action to residents' concerns and ideas.
They have also created local postcards and information flyers, undertaken a public art audit and run anti-litter activities and campaigns, Ms Haughton said.
There are so many ways to help the town and there is always a call for new volunteers to jump in and help, she added.
