Community festival celebrates environment
1 min read

The Tanjil Valley community has initiated its first festival, designed to celebrate the natural environment.
A variety of free activities will be offered this Sunday, April 30 from 10am to 2pm on the banks and bushland beside Blue Rock Lake.
At 9am, visitors can experience a smoking ceremony and welcome to country, being an official opening of the upgraded section of the walking track on Blue Rock Rd, adjacent to the lake.
Later, near the boat ramp, there will be interactive display stalls connected to all things nature including Bug Blitz, Birdlife Australia, cubby building, a nature treasure hunt and tree planting as well as live music, local community organisations who have an environmental focus and country style food to buy.
Families will find plenty to suit all age groups. Learn about bee keeping, native habitats and plants, organic vegetables, wildlife rescue, Landcare and sustainable energy. The area also includes a safe children's playground, toilets and shelters.
Community members are encouraged to go along to the festival, take a blanket or camp chair and connect with nature. For more information, see the Tanjil Valley Landcare Facebook page.
