Community owned hospitals such as Neerim Health's hospital at Neerim South have been assured they will have the funds they need if a Liberal Nationals coalition state government is elected in November.
The Neerim South hospital is one of only five bush nursing hospitals remaining in the state.
Nationals deputy leader Emma Kealy said requirements of the five hospitals would be reviewed to ensure they were guaranteed the funding needed to keep them operating and their doors open.
She said the number small bush nursing hospitals had dropped from more than 40 due to the current government's treatment of them as private health services.
"Not only would the Coalition provide the operational funding for Neerim South and the other four hospitals but would also ensure they can access capital funding streams".
It is a win for local people who need services close to home rather than having to travel often long distances to larger centres but would also help take pressure off the overburdened public health system, Ms Kealy said.
