Drouin's outdoor pool remains closed today following a chemical spill incident on Wednesday.
However, Baw Baw Shire remains hopeful the pool in Sinclair St will re-open tomorrow (Saturday), pending testing this afternoon.
The closure followed an incident during a routine delivery of liquid chlorine solution on Wednesday.
The shire reported the solution spilled out of its containment and into the storage bunds, requiring clean up.
To avoid any chlorine draining out of the storage area and potentially impacting the surrounding environment, the decision was made to pump the chlorine into the pool.
This caused a significant overdose of chlorine and brought the pool out of safe swimming regulations, the shire stated.
Pool chlorine levels naturally drop over time and can be reduced with additional diluting chemicals, which the YMCA have been undertaking in recent days.
This morning, a council spokesperson said the pool's chemical levels were nearing the regulated range and the facility may re-open tomorrow.
"The safety of our community is council's number one priority," Baw Baw Shire director of community infrastructure Ben Wood said. "On behalf of the organisation, I'd like to thank the YMCA and CFA for their prompt response and actions following the pool chemical spill at the Drouin Outdoor Pool."
"We know the YMCA have been working tirelessly to get the facility back up and running as soon as possible to ensure Baw Baw residents have access to this valuable community facility," Mr Wood added
