The Yarragon charity book fair will be held this weekend at the Yarragon Public Hall.
Despite the rise in popularity of handheld devices and social media, reading continues to be a popular pastime for many people in the community.
The number of book fairs held across Australia continues to grow and the passion for second hand books is alive and well.
The Yarragon event has been a trendsetter, originating in the early 2000s as a community fundraiser. It has continued to be a favourite on the calendar for book lovers across Victoria and southern New South Wales.
Funds raised from the fair will support the Yarragon Fire Brigade and Yarragon Primary School Parents Club to allow them to buy equipment to better services their communities.
Yarragon Fire Brigade member and book fair coordinator Geoff Conway said fire brigade and school volunteers had once again been overwhelmed by the generosity of donors who provided thousands of top quality books for the event.
"Donations of books by local residents as well as charity groups from across eastern Victoria have helped to ensure we can offer something amazing for every interest. Paperbacks are priced from $1, hardcovers $2, and children's books are $5 for a bag or box.
"This fundraiser has been a massive contributor to our fire brigade and the success of local volunteer firefighters in protecting life and properties across the region," he said. "It's also a positive event for local traders who have always been very supportive of the fire brigade and the event.
"Our partners in the running of the event, the Yarragon Primary School parents club, have added a great sense of fun. The parents, students and staff from the school bring amazing energy to the running of the book fair.
With all new stock at great prices, patrons can grab a bargain for every member of the family with paperbacks and hardcovers of every genre on sale across the weekend. Because space is limited, tables will be restocked continuously.
Doors open on Saturday, May 4 at 8.30am and the fair will run on both days, finishing at 4pm on Sunday.
