More than 240 people recently gathered at the Athlone Community Hall for centenary celebrations.
The special event was attended by locals, people from across Victoria and even some interstate visitors.
A number of historical artefacts and memorabilia relating to the region were on display, including old household items, clothing, vintage machinery and bric-a-brac.
Guest speakers included Cr Keith Cook, who talked about the history of the Strzelecki Railway Line, and Bill Smethurst, who talked about his years growing up in Athlone.
A special plaque was unveiled by Tom McNamara and Gwenda Davies to commemorate the milestone and a time capsule will be buried during the 2023 Australia Day celebrations.
Centenary committee member Leesa Williams thanked the "amazing" committee for their efforts in bringing the big day together.
She said it was "such a wonderful way to bring the community together" with lots of laughter and chatter filled the hall throughout the day.
Mrs Williams also thanked everyone who supplied memorabilia and helped put the event together, including the Hallora and District Fire Brigade who supplied sausages and egg and bacon rolls.
