Bunyip Ward councillor elected deputy mayor

Bunyip Ward's new councillor Alanna Pomeroy has been elected Cardinia Shire's deputy mayor.

The Tynong resident was elected into the deputy position for one year at a statutory meeting held last Monday.
Cr Pomeroy also was appointed councillor delegate to Myli.
With Cr Jack Kowarzik from the growth ward of Pakenham Hills returned as mayor, Cr Pomeroy believed her deputy appointment would balance out Cardinia's diverse community.
She is keen to put rural issues such as green wedges and unsealed roads on the table.
"That was a lot of the appeal in standing for deputy mayor," she said. "I just wanted to have the opportunity to help represent the community."
Although new to council, Cr Pomeroy said she couldn't pass up the opportunity to stand for a leadership role that reflected the new cohort of three returning and six new councillors.
Noting strong support from both councillors and staff, she expressed eagerness to learn and get started.
"Our community looks to us, not just for action but for strong advocacy, sound governance and leadership that builds trust and delivers tangible results," she said.
"My focus will remain on supporting the mayor and councillors, ensuring our decisions reflect the best interest of our community, balancing a long-term strategic vision with practical and effective outcomes.
"Cardinia Shire is a diverse and growing community, and we must embrace new ideas and approaches to meet the needs of today while planning for the future."
As a lifelong library user, Cr Pomeroy said the Myli delegate role was "definitely one I was most keen on."
She is excited to help implement changes to ensure libraries continue to meet community need as well as develop and grow of Myli across Cardinia, Baw Baw, Bass Coast and South Gippsland shires. That includes expansion of library services into new spaces such as the Baw Baw Culture and Connection Precinct in Warragul.
