Bridge players in a slice of history
1 min read

Weekly bridge card games at Warragul's Community House seemed an unlikely step to being part of history but that's what happened with a couple of local enthusiasts of the game.
Warragul Bridge Club members, secretary/treasurer Diane Crowther and Anne George, were part of the first organised bridge game in the ballroom at Government House in Melbourne recently.
The pair was selected by the club to represent it, along with about 160 others from clubs across Victoria, at the first bridge event in the ballroom as part of celebrating the game and the state's leading contribution worldwide.
Diane and Anne said they had a wonderful afternoon meeting players from across the state and hoped the Governor would repeat the event next year.
The game has "hooked" people since including prominent world figures as well as people who might be your next door neighbour in a country town.
Even the International Olympic Committee recognises the strategy based game as a "mind-sport" that keeps the brain mentally active.
For Diane and Anne it's back to their weekly card playing afternoons at the Community House and no doubt the envy of other members that might be hoping to be among those if the bridge celebration returns to Government House next year.
