Member for Monash and independent candidate at the federal election Russell Broadbent said key local projects missed out in last Tuesday's budget.
He said his top priority was funding towards a new West Gippsland Hospital but there was nothing in the budget to get the project started.
Mr Broadbent said he would be using his leverage as an independent member to get a commitment from the government during the election campaign for $60 million to plan and develop the project to sod turning stage.
The Victorian government, through former Premier Daniel Andrews, guaranteed in October 2022 during the last state election campaign that a re-elected Labor government "further detailed design work would begin in 2023, construction start last year and be completed by 2028 and patients and staff would move into the brand new hospital at Drouin East in 2029".
Mr Andrews said the development was "fully costed, planned and funded" by the state government.
However, Mr Broadbent last week said there was no money in the state budget for work on the hospital and he would "do whatever it takes" to get the federal government to provide $60 million to get the project moving.
Also, Baw Baw Shire council is also seeking an additional $10 million from the federal government towards the cost of a new library and cultural and connection centre it proposes to build at Warragul.
Mr Broadbent said last week's budget did not provide that.
He said federal funding of $14 million had already been allocated to the project and believed council would need to present "a very good case" for extra money towards the complex's construction.
