1 min read

A large crowd of locals marched through the main street of Drouin towards the cenotaph as part of the town's Anzac Day service.
Beginning at the Bendigo Bank carpark, community groups including the Drouin First Scouts, Drouin CFA, Salvation Army, Drouin Girl Guides and numerous school groups made their way to the cenotaph, joining hundreds of other locals gathered for the main service.
Drouin RSL secretary Jenni Coombes commenced the event by welcoming the community to the service. Pastor Steve Jones lead the group in prayer, acknowledging the service of Australian servicemen and women during wartime.
Conducted by Libby Willems, the Baw Baw Singers showcased their talent with a performance of "When Billy Came Back", followed by a reading of Laurence Binyon's poem "For the Fallen" by Drouin Secondary College school captain Savannah Staunton.
Former member of the RAN Jo Westthorp was guest speaker at the service, giving a powerful speech about the role women and nurses played during the war.
Wreaths were laid by a number of local groups and schools, including Drouin Rotary, Legacy Central Gippsland, Drouin Police and Ambulance Victoria's Drouin Branch.
Peter Eshuis sang the New Zealand national anthem before the Baw Baw Singers led the crowd in singing the Australian national anthem, accompanied by the Salvation Army Band.
Drouin RSL president Rod McNab concluded the service with the Ode before welcoming the community to the RSL Hall for warm refreshments.
