An overwhelming vote of Liberal Party delegates has endorsed Mary Aldred as the party's next candidate for Monash, in a pre-selection battle that has ousted long serving federal member Russell Broadbent.
Mr Broadbent was re-elected at last year's federal election for his seventh term as the local member but party delegates were not prepared to give him an eighth when they met in Warragul on Sunday.
A Liberal Party source said the vote overwhelmingly favoured Warragul's Ms Aldred who received 161 votes from the 193 delegates. A successful candidate has to win 50 per cent of the vote plus one.
