More than 100 submissions have been received by Baw Baw Shire council about a plan to build a new child care centre in Sinclair St, Drouin.
The number of submissions will require the planning application to go to a full council meeting, at a date yet to be set, for decision.
Grant St, that runs along the back of Drouin Primary School, and Sinclair St - the two roads meet at a right angle corner that also has the entrance to Drouin recreation reserve - has significant traffic congestion issues especially during school pick ups and drop offs.
Traffic from St Ita's primary school in Victoria St also feeds into Grant St and had used the recreation reserve for access for cars dropping off and picking up children that attend St Ita's.
Late last year and for much of the next school year the recreation reserve access has been closed to St Ita's traffic because of redevelopment of the reserve's oval, adding to congestion problems.
A further planned development in the area, a medical centre at the corner of Sinclair and Grant Sts has added to local concerns about traffic safety.
That has followed demolition of a house on the block last month.
Baw Baw Shire stated the application for the medical centre was lodged in August 2023 and a permit granted three months later.
