Healing, Reflections and Learning

Neerim South Primary School opened a habitat garden called "Healing, Reflections and Learning Garden. Belonging, Being, Becoming" earlier this month.
The project has been underway for almost four years, made possible by a series of grants from various organisations.
The garden is used by students to read, discuss, listen, perform, observe and play and has provided an excellent opportunity for students to learn about various plants and animals.
There are various sculptures, a small creek and many native plants.
At the opening teachers, staff, students and parents gathered in front of the garden to celebrate its completion.
Natasha Brown, who has been co-ordinating the project from the beginning, thanked everyone involved with the garden since it began in 2019.
"A huge amount of people and businesses enabled us to create this garden, many of the hours were voluntarily donated. If there was a cost associated, I'm sure it would've been in the tens of thousands," she said.
Grade 1/2 students recently completed a "biodiversity audit", the second completed by the class this year, during which they found the garden had experienced an increase in animals.
"The garden is a collaborative effort incorporating lots of different groups of people and has food plants for people and animals," Ms Brown said.
"It will continue to develop and grow over the next generation and provide many learning opportunities. We'd look forward to the ongoing, changing nature of our garden."
