Gippsland Water has stressed the importance of people ensuring their contact details are up to date in case of an emergency.
Managing director Sarah Cumming said receiving text messages were an important part in the communication chain and it was important it had up to date mobile phone numbers to reach customers as quickly as possible.
SMS is one of the most instant and effective methods, along with Gippsland Water's use of radio, television , social and its website, to alert people if services were interrupted and tell them what was happening.
Ms Cumming said wild weather last month when some services were affected showed the importance of people getting information quickly. But we know not all of our customers have registered their mobile phone numbers with us, she said.
Gippsland Water recently updated its processes to make it easier and quicker for people to jump on line and update their details, Ms Cumming said, or they can call the customer care team on 1800 050 500 to do it for them.Updating details online can be done at www.gippswater.com.au/update-your-details
