An overhaul of Longwarry Recreation Reserve is one of four infrastructure priorities for Baw Baw, according to Independent candidate for Monash Deb Leonard.
If elected, Ms Leonard has pledged to secure funding for football and netball club facility upgrades and a much-needed second oval at Longwarry.
Expansion of Bellbird Park in Drouin, installing female-friendly changerooms and building accessible community spaces and recreation facilities for all ages and abilities also featured when Ms Leonard unveiled her infrastructure funding policy on Thursday.
She said the priority projects were shaped by extensive community consultation.
"In my conversations with sporting clubs, community groups and residents from Warragul to Wonthaggi, one message has come through loud and clear - Monash has been short-changed for too long when it comes to federal funding for vital local infrastructure," Ms Leonard said. "As a community independent, my role is to listen to locals and fight for the funding our communities are crying out for."
Ms Leonard said she would work constructively with whichever party formed government to deliver the infrastructure the community needed and deserved.
"These aren't wish-list items, they are essential community facilities that have been identified by local residents as critical to the wellbeing, participation and liveability of our region," she said. "It shouldn't matter if you live in Monash or Melbourne, every community deserves high quality sporting and recreation infrastructure. I will work tirelessly to ensure we get our fair share."
After unveiling her infrastructure priorities for Baw Baw, Ms Leonard opened the doors to her new campaign hub in the heart of Warragul on Friday.
Located in Victoria St, she said she wanted to "create a welcoming space in Warragul where locals can come and talk to me about their concerns and hopes for our region."
