Darnum Primary School recently unveiled a new undercover basketball and covered area thanks to a capital works grant from the state government.
The covered area which provides shelter to the school's basketball court has been a revelation for the school according to principal Jai Law.
"With such a wet winter and spring and a warm summer to come, the facility is great for the students and staff," he said. "Construction took about 15 weeks and it was completed in early November."
The school had been campaigning for the facility for close to 20 years according to Mr Law and thanks to a round of funding from the state government in 2020 the school was able to have the facility built. Mr Law said undercover lighting and new basketball rings were able to be installed thanks to a donation from Fonterra in Darnum.
The school has been growing in recent years and now has about 160 students. Mr Law said the new facility had already been well-used for a number of assemblies and visits from community groups. "Given the wet November, we have also been able to provide a lot more PE classes outside thanks to the new area," he said.
